Image tags is the second type of AI-Powered rule. The AI looks at every picture in a field - usually additional_image_link - and writes one tag per link into another field, in the same order. Your pictures are never changed or removed: the rule only adds the tags. Part of the AI Optimizer module.

The tags
product- the whole product on a plain background.lifestyle- the product in a room or in use.close_up- part of the product, still a good photo.info- text, badges or measurements on the picture.bad- a close-up of a spot you cannot tell the product from.- A link the AI could not see gets a technical tag instead -
broken,blocked,timeoutornot_checked- and is tried again on the next update.
Set it up
- Create the field for the tags first, if you do not have one: in the Rules tab use New Column (for example
image_tags). - Open the data source, click AI Optimizer and then Create new AI-Powered Rule.
- Give the rule a name and, if needed, filter the products it applies to.
- Set Rule type to Image tags.
- 1) Pictures field - the field with the picture links, one link per line, like
image_linkoradditional_image_link. - 2) Write tags to - the field from the first step.
- 3) Product name field - usually
title. It is sent with each picture and helps to tell one item of a set from a close-up. - Click Changes preview - up to 10 products are tagged for real, so you see the result before saving. Nothing is written to the catalog.
- Click Save Rule, then switch the rule on with the Status switch in the AI-Powered Rules list - a new rule is saved switched off.

On the next update the tags are in the field: line 1 of image_tags belongs to link 1 of additional_image_link, line 2 to link 2, and so on.
Tags are kept per picture link. On later updates only new or changed links go to the AI - a catalog that keeps its pictures costs nothing extra to keep tagged. The first run of a large catalog takes longer.
Using the tags
- Find products that need better pictures: filter rules or feed exports by
image_tagsContainsinfoorbad. - See at a glance which products have lifestyle pictures and which have only plain product shots.
- Spot broken picture links -
brokenin the tags field means the link did not open.
